Griffins


Griffin or Griffon:

have the head, beak, and wings of an eagle and a lion's body. They tear their vitims with their sharp beak while holding them down with their talons. The true origin of a Griffin is unknown, but it's somewhere in the middle East.

Hippogrif:

Hippogrifs are ferocious creatures.

They are a legendary creature that is half griffin and half horse. From its father it has the head and forequarters of a griffin. The hindquarters is from its mother the horse.

In Novels:

In Harry potter and the Prisoner of Aklezban, a Hippogrif is introduced. In the book it was named Buckbeak. According to the book, they are touchy creatures that you don't want to mess with. Buckbeak attacked Malfoy because Malfoy insulted it.To become its friend you must bow to it first and if it bows back then he's your friend. Harry bowed to Buckbeak and it let Harry ride him.



Hippocerf:

Hippocerf's is a half horse and half deer. They represent indecision.

Manticore

The Manticore is a victious creature from Asia.

A Manticore is a lion-like creature with a human-like head and a tail of a scropian. Sometimes they are pictured with wings. They live in the forest where they hunt humans. They sting the vitims with their poisonous tails and eat everything to leave no trace. Another description of them: they move in prides and kill just for the sake of it and leave their victim to be found.

Sphinxes

The Sphinxes are seen in two cultures: Egyptians and the Greeks.

Egyptian Sphinxes: They are used as statues depicted with a lion's body, the head of the king it honors, and sometimes had wings. Much later, when the Greeks visited Egypt they gave these structures their name Sphinx.

Greeks Sphinxes: They are creatures of death, destruction, and bad luck. Often they are depicted with female heads, a lion's body, a sometimes a snake tail. The Sphinx was the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. They are sometimes seen as guardians of a temple.

Dragons

Introduction:


Dragons are huge reptilian beasts with huge leathery wings and breathes fire from the pits of their bellies. The top part of their bodies that are covered in scales are tough to penetrate but their under bellies are soft and vulnerable. Some are pictured with only two hind legs and claws, others have four legs and claws. They have very sharp teeth, a long tail, and can see well in the dark.

Dragons come in various colors. Unlike snakes they're warm-blooded creatures hence their ability to breathe fire. They are often associated with chaos, maidens, treasures, and luck. There's different stories depicting their abilities from flying to breathing fire and other mythical powers.


Cultural Dragons


1. Western Dragons:


The Greeks called them Drakon, the Romans called them Draco, and the British refered to them as Drake. The Western Dragons have the characterisics of a typical fantasy dragon. They have four taloned legs, bat-like wings, a crest on their heads, and a beard underneath their chin. They have tough scales, their bellies are like a crocodile's, and some have horns.


Western dragons vary in sizes from small like a fox to big as an elephant. They come in all sorts of colors, have fire breathing abilities, and have barbed tongues. The bloodof western dragons have healing properties and allows it to understand other languages. They have a gem in their head called the Draconce or Dragon-stone. The stone is red and has curative powers.


2. Chinese Dragons:


Chinese dragons are different than Western dragons. They are powerful but benevolent ruler of the earth, sky, and sea. Dragons in the Chinese culture are one of the four of the spirtual animals and are considered good luck; bringing good fortune.


Chinese Dragons have a horse like head with two horns behind its ears. They have long whiskers coming fron its muzzle and has a thick scaly hide. They have four taloned legs and no wings but they're still able to fly. Their bodies are long and snake-like.
