Sphinxes

The Sphinxes are seen in two cultures: Egyptians and the Greeks.

Egyptian Sphinxes: They are used as statues depicted with a lion's body, the head of the king it honors, and sometimes had wings. Much later, when the Greeks visited Egypt they gave these structures their name Sphinx.

Greeks Sphinxes: They are creatures of death, destruction, and bad luck. Often they are depicted with female heads, a lion's body, a sometimes a snake tail. The Sphinx was the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. They are sometimes seen as guardians of a temple.
